Gale Riverside CL, Pits Lane, Chedgrave, Norfolk, NR14 6NQ
To Find Site:- From the Norwich direction on the A146 take left turn signed for Chedgrave. (It would be advised not to approach the site via Loddon) Just past 30mph sign fork left into Rectory Lane. This brings you to a cross roads, parade of shops on the left opposite. Go straight across into Hadley Road and then turn right into Pits Lane (also marked boatyards). Gale Riverside is at the bottom of Pits Lane. (some of these roads are quite narrow so care is required)
Gale Riverside, previously a working boatyard, is a real gem of a CL which is testified by the very high level of bookings it enjoys all through its opening period. John and Cynthia, the owners, make you feel very welcome. The CL is based on a large lawned area on the edge of the River Chet. 10 amp electrics are available to all pitches. The CL has a very clever arrangement for fresh water, each tap has a long hose so there is no need to take water containers to the taps. There are two separate toilets, one with a shower, both maintained to an excellent standard. Chemical toilet and grey water disposal is available as is rubbish disposal, recycling is in operation and you are asked to sort rubbish as per the instructions. Mobile and TV (with Status) reception were somewhat intermittent.
This CL is in an ideal situation. If you just want to sit around on site there is plenty to see watching the river traffic. A short walk along the backs of the various boatyards, interesting in itself, brings you to the village of Loddon. It has a good range of shops and several pubs. At Loddon Staithe you can watch the visiting boats. There are various walks from the CL to explore the local area. Further a field are Norwich, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. Beccles, a few miles from the CL, is a delightful small town and also has two supermarkets.
