Camping Nord Sam, Samstrasse 22a, 5023 Salzburg Nord, Tel
0662660494
To Find Site:-
Leave A1 Wien autobahn at junction 288 and
follow Salzburg Nord signs. This road loops round to the left.
Immediately under railway bridge prepare to turn left at traffic lights.
As you pass Renault Garage on right go into left-hand lane at traffic
lights to go straight across passing SPAR supermarket on right. Follow
this road under railway bridge and now take second right into Samstrasse
and the campsite is almost immediately on the right.
The
campsite is well signed from the A1 autobahn. In the low season
reception is closed between midday and 4.00pm, however if the notice is
displayed you are invited to find a pitch and book in later. There is no
off road parking outside the site.
This was our second visit to Camping Nord Sam, albeit the first
time was 24 years ago. The campsite is situated in an urban environment
so visitors should expect some noise from the adjacent high level
railways line although this is only intermittent.
I
suspect Camping Nord Sam is more of a short stay site in order to visit
Salzburg, especially for those not wanting to use their own transport,
rather than a long stay holiday destination. There are approaching a
hundred pitches all of which are separated by hedges and trees. They all
vary in size although none could be described as large. Most are long
enough to accept units up to about eight metres long but not
particularly wide so perhaps caravan and awning but with the car across
the front of the pitch. Access roads are not particularly wide so
reversing requires some care for longer units.
Some of
the pitches are smaller and only suitable for tents of perhaps small
camper vans. Pitch surface is grass with added grit to give a firmer
footing. Electric points are dotted around the site and use CEE17 blue
connectors and are rated at 10 amps . From some pitches a long lead may
be required and in certain circumstances it might be necessary to run
the lead across the site road. There are a few water points on the site
but they are all positioned at the top of the site nearer to reception.
The only grey water disposal point is at the motorhome service point,
this is also where the chemical toilet emptying is located. The facility
block is situated under reception. It has recently been refurbished to a
high standard. It has
seated toilets and toilet paper provided. It
could be a bit stretched if the site were full. Reception has a lot of
local information and they also have a small seated area where drinks
are served and also continental breakfast and also sell a few
essentials. There is site wide WiFi available at a modest cost, each
module is limit to a total data usage of 1GB rather than a timed period.
For young children there is a small adventure style playground. The site
also has a small swimming pool. Whilst Camping Nord Sam is not in the
ACSI scheme it does offer a small discount, depending on season, for
card holders.
It is very easy and quick to get into the centre of Salzburg
from the campsite. Bus tickets can be purchased from Reception which
gives access to all buses for 24 hours. They run every fifteen minutes
on weekdays, every twenty minutes on Saturday and every thirty minutes
on Sundays.
The 23 service takes you to the Hauptbahnhof
from where can either walk or hop on another service to the Zentrum. If
you intend to do a lot during your visit then it might be worth
considering the Salzburg Card. For food shopping there is a handy SPAR
supermarket about a ten minute walk away. For eating out there is, of
course, a massive choice in the City Centre. Locally there is a small
family run pizzeria, recommended by reception, a short walk from the
site. The daughter of the family speaks some English if you need help.
It does Austrian dishes as well. We thought it good value.
